Mwingi protest over insecurity
19 April 2013, 15:23
Over 200 Mwingi residents at Mboru early Friday morning staged a peaceful demonstration in Mwingi town over what they termed as laxity by the security personnel and police deployed in the area.
They were acting on the many murder and theft cases that have engulfed the town in the past few months with the most recent incident having taken place Thursday where a decomposing body of a pharmacist was found rotting in a residential house adjacent to the Mwingi police camp.
Addressing the media, the residents blamed the security personnel for sleeping on their job saying this brings to 5 the number of people murdered in the area this year.
They said that the failure to defend residents within the town has exhibited a negative impact on investors since very few of them are willing to trade in an insecure environment. Most of them have shied away from the area due to high insecurity levels.
They also reported that early hours of the night muggings have been taking place in the town.
The residents have now called upon the Mwingi town Police OCS Jonathan Wafula to immediately find a solution to this rampant problem of insecurity to avert the loss of lives.
