Mombasa - Over 1 200 students from Mvita constituency in Mombasa County will benefit from a vocational training programme funded by the area constituency development fund (CDF).
The KES 12 million programme is an integrated tertiary program aimed at sponsoring youth to different training institutions within the county.
The programme, according to the area Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, will also target class eight and form four leavers in the entire constituency.
“We have a huge back-load of students who cannot access higher education every year. This programme is aimed at training students to professionals, ” said Nassir.
This, according to the MP, is a long term programme that will be taken through a cordial relationship between the Mvita constituency development fund and over 20 training institutions within the entire Mombasa County.
The area CDF board, Omar Sharrif said, is going to sponsor 60 percent of the fees as the student raises the rest.
“We are anticipating that we will produce good professionals. Our aim is to let them select the courses they want to pursue at the institutions and then we will sponsor them,” he explained.
Mombasa county government has maintained that education especially for the youth will be a priority.
The county governor, Hassan Ali Joho had said that the county was going to upgrade various tertiary institutions and equip them with the necessary resources in order to facilitate quality training.
