Mutunga names 5 judges to determine Rawal fate

23 September 2015, 12:57 William Korir

Nairobi - Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has  named a 5 judge bench to determine the fate of his deputy Kalpana Rawal who is seeking to have her planned retirement stopped.

Mutunga Wednesday named Justice Richard Mwongo to lead the team. The other judges are Weldon Korir, Hedwig Ongudi, Christine Meoli and Charles Kariuki.

" The judges will deliberate the matter with the full support of the CJ's office," he stated.

Last week Justice Isaac Lenaola referred the matter to Mutunga to choose a bench to determine the matter.

Rawal, Lenaola said, had convincingly demonstrated that her case goes beyond an employer- employee dispute and has raised questions of law.

Rawal is contesting a decision by the Judiciary Service Commision JSC to have her retire at 70 years.

She says that she is due to retire at 74.
