Nairobi - Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has welcomed the intended visit by president Uhuru Kenyatta to the county.
The president is set to visit the region, with Machakos and Kitui counties the epicenter of his visit.
Mutua says that the county will be honoured by the president's visit and that he expects it to be beneficial to the people of Machakos.
" We welcome the president in his visit to Machakos to talk development matters. I urge residents to welcome him with open hands," he said.
Mutua has been accused by some members of the CORD coalition of being too close to the ruling Jubilee coalition but he says that the choice to visit Ukambani is the president's and he will respect it.

" It is important that the president visit all parts of the country in-spite of the political affiliation".
Political analysts though feel that the visit by the president is a cheeky one, considering the problems between Mutua and his party at present.
" I think it is cheeky and a smart move by the president to just see the reaction to the move from the region. The issues between Mutua and Wiper are well documented and it is a good time to go there," Michael Njenga, a Nairobi based analyst says.
Mutua has dissented on several CORD initiatives, including the Saba Saba rallies as well as the Okoa Kenya referendum initiatives.
