Muthama ordered to appear in court or face arrest

09 October 2015, 12:51 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has been ordered to appear in court next week or face arrest.

Muthama has been ordered to avail himself in court on Thursday 15 October 2015 to answer to charges of incitement and hate speech.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP has stated that it has enough evidence to charge Muthama over utterances made in Nairobi's Uhuru Park two weeks ago where he insinuated that Devolution CS Anne Waiguru was President Uhuru Kenyatta's girlfriend.

It also accused him of inciting Kenyans against Waiguru.

" Senator Muthama is ordered to appear before court on October 15 to take plea over allegations of incitement to violence," the DPP said in a statement.

The move is the culmination of weeks of investigations by the DPP, Criminal Investigations Department CID and the National Cohesion and Integration Commision NCIC.

Muthama has said he will cooperate with authorities over the matter but has stressed that the move is politically instigated since other leaders that have said worse are yet to be prosecuted.
