Muslim preacher arrested for possessing tapes with radical teachings

Mombasa - Police arrested a Muslim preacher for illegal possession of video tapes with radical teachings in his house in Mombasa.

The arrest came just a day after the killing of the controversial Muslim cleric Abubakar Sharrif alias Makaburi.

The 30-year-old Hassan Juma, a preacher at Masjid Falah situated in Likoni was arrested by police at his home with the materials after police found that he had been using the video tapes to teach children how to assemble guns and other radical teachings in his house.

Confirming the incident Likoni District Criminal Investigation Officer, Haris Odengo said police the made the arrest after they were tipped off the preachers behaviors and found him with the tapes that showed radical teachings and gun assembling.

“We are holding the preacher who the police found him with video tape materials that have teachings on how guns are assembled, we suspect he has been using them to teach children in his house, ”said Ondengo.

He said the preacher will help the criminal and anti terror units with vital information that will help lead to the arrest of other radical preachers in the region.

The government has banned the distribution and showing in the public  tapes with controversial teachings in the entire coast.
