Museveni urges Kenyans to embrace modernization

Mombasa - Kenyans have been advised to get modernized so as to have an extended growth in their economy and win the war against poverty.
This is an advice from the Uganda President Yoweri Museveni who visited the country to attend the East Africa Community infrastructure summit being held in Mombasa.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the annual Agricultural Show by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) in Mombasa, Museveni said that the over dependence on subsistence farming will not at all help win the war against poverty either in Kenya or any other country in East Africa and the world.
He said that the fact that we are not modernized in the manner of our farming has originated from professionals in the sector of Agriculture keeping their knowledge safely locked in files and kept in laboratories awaiting the coming of annual agricultural shows to brag over their good research.
The Ugandan President advised the coast people and Kenyans at large to get advanced and have skills found in laboratories put into action and not on a food production scheme but in commercialized agriculture.
He said that the practice of land inheritance is another problem that not only Kenyans posses but runs across Africa, in that the inherited land is split into small portions to cater for the large number of children making it impossible for the same to be used in commercial agricultural production.
He advised even though land inheritance is not a bad thing, the manner in which the land is inherited does not support development and called on the community at large to embrace inheritance in the form of shares.
He said that embracing shares where land is invested in and the products shared in the form of shares keeps the land size permanent allowing it to produce on a large scale for longer.
Museveni said this after he witnessed the handover of over 60, 000 land title deeds that are to be offered to the Coast people by his host, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Museveni cautioned against over dependence on agriculture saying that a country that over depends on the said agriculture is a poor country, quoting that America being among the richest countries in the world has only 2% of its population in Agriculture and that the same applies to Japan and China.
He said that Kenyans should target other sectors like industrial, service, ICT and commercialized agricultural base to reach its goal of ananti-poverty nation.
