Nairobi - Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wairia was arrested by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC detectives for allegedly lying about his candidature for the gubernatorial post.
The Governor was arrested by the EACC officials Wednesday from his Murang'a office for lying to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC over his candidature for the March 2013 General Elections.
He was driven to the EACC's Integrity Centre offices in Nairobi and complained of a plot to embarrass him.
" This is a plot to embarrass the Governor. Did they have to put him in a Land Rover? What point are they trying to put across?" his lawyer complained to reporters.
The lawyer John Ng'ang'a said that the Governor would not have refused to cooperate had the police followed up the matter in a better way.
EACC officials said that he would be taken to court Thursday for lying.
The arrest follows a week in which a number of senior government officials have been forced to step aside from office to pave way for investigations by the EACC over corruption allegations.
