Mudavadi: I was not a spoiler
26 August 2013, 11:36
Vihiga - Former deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has lashed out at his critics who claim that he was a spoiler in the last general election.
During his tour of the Vihiga County over the weekend, Mudavadi said that those claiming that he was a spoiler should come out clearly and explain their propagandist agenda.
“No one can claim that I spoilt for Raila. If so, then Raila also spoilt for me and should apologise for having done so. Peter Kenneth and Martha Karua could have also been blamed for spoiling for Uhuru Kenyatta and vice versa,” Mudavadi said.
He was speaking at Hombala Primary School in Sabatia West Ward, during the thanksgiving ceremony of the area Member of the County Assembly, David Ogova.
He was accompanied by Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi and Chavakali ward MCA Stephen Mugalitsi.
Mudavadi said that most of the people who are now spreading propaganda that he should retire from politics because he is a potential spoiler are foul propagandists and should be warned against divisive politics.
“The constitution allows for anyone to vie for the presidency of the country. And if I was not befitting the stature, the IEBC couldn’t have allowed me to run for the top post. I vied because I knew I could lead the country,” he said.
He noted that even if he could have added Cord leader Raila Odinga the close to half a million votes, he couldn’t have won the election.
On devolved functions he asked the leaders who are in authority to shun ethnicity in the distribution of state positions and public offices.
“We want to live in a country where you are given a position of authority because it is befitting you. Not because you are coming from the ‘right tribe’,” he said.
Mudavadi also explained that he is concentrating on future plans and nothing will stop him from going for the top post in the coming years.
“When driving, you can’t focus on the rear view because the vehicle may swerve from the road and end up causing an accident. I am solely concentrating on future plans and vying again,” he said.
The former DPM said that those who think that the Luhya community will apologise for him having vied for presidency are dreaming because Luhyas are not half-humans not to vie for anything.
Sabatia MP Agoi said that they are in advanced talks and want to present Mudavadi to the people again as the preferred leader from the Luhya community who can lead the country.
“So far, Mudavadi is the only senior politician that we have from this region and there is no way anything can come to this society without passing through his hands. He will be presented again to the people,” said Agoi.
In the past few months, there have been widespread rumours that Mudavadi’s Amani coalition was bought by the Jubilee team to spoil for Raila Odinga his potential votes from the western region voting bloc.
