Muchai wife, brother questioned over MPs murder

09 February 2015, 17:34 William Korir

Nairobi - The wife of murdered MP George Muchai has recorded statements with the CID to try shed light on the reasons for his murder.

Susan Muchai recorded the statement at the MPs home along Kangundo Road Monday as police tried hard to uncover the mystery of the death of the MP.

Muchai was murdered in cold blood Saturday morning in Nairobi along Kenyatta Avenue by unknown assailants.

Police sources told News24 that the investigations are now centering on the MPs business interests as well as persons close to him to determine motives of the murder.

" The investigations are currently centered on people around him to see why one would want him dead," the source said.

Also questioned were Muchai's brother Kihara and sister in law Judy.

Muchai will be buried Friday.

There has been huge calls from members of the political folk to ensure that investigations are completed within the shortest time possible.

MPs threatened Tuesday to impeach Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery if he does not produce the killers of MP George Muchai in 72 hours.

Muchai was murdered in cold blood Saturday morning along Nairobi's Kenyatta Avenue by an unknown gunman as he attempted to buy a newspaper.

Three others, two of them his body guards as well as driver were also gunned down in the incident.

According to the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Security Asman Kamama, the death was a shocking and horrific incident which must be probed with immediacy.

He said that it was Nkaissery's job to ensure the security of Kenyans and that unless he has a proper lead in 72 hours, drastic measures will have to be taken.

" We need a name and within 72 hours or else we will take action," Kamama shouted Monday afternoon, flanked by a number of MPs.

" Such an incident must not go unpunished and Kenyans need to see seriousness in the investigations. It is a must we see action, " he added.

Nkaissery has already said that investigations over the incident are in top gear and that security forces are following vital leads at the moment.
