Msambweni constituency MP Suleiman Dor distributed Eid Al Fitr food to patients and staffs of Msambweni hospital and pledged to assist in repairing the hospital.
The MP spent over KES 400 000 to buy the food.
He said that he will use Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to ensure the hospital is in good condition.
Speaking in Msambweni on Monday, Dor said it is his mandate to ensure that those admitted at the hospital are served in a conducive environment.
“I have a role as the leader of this area to make sure all problems are corrected so that doctors continue serving patients as required and that patients can be treated without raising complaints,” he noted.
Dor said that most of the toilets used by patients in the district hospital are in deplorable condition with linkages which need to be repaired as quickly as possible.
“There are also beds which needs to be replaced because they are either too old or in bad condition and so it will be also my work to see to it that they are repaired,” he added.
He dismissed claims that patients in the hospital share beds because of congestion noting that there is no congestion. He however admitted that hospital beds are in bad condition.
Dor said he is working closely with the hospital management to develop a duty roaster for doctors in the hospital so that patients can know who is supposed to serve them and when.
“Because there has been complaints by patients and local residents over the matter, we have decided to come up with a duty roaster and the staff who will be found neglecting their duty they will be held responsible for anything happening to the patients,” he said.
Intervention by the area MP will help locals who have for long time criticised doctors over their failure to attend to them, a situation that has even led to loss of lives.
Msambweni district hospital is used as a referral hospital by Kwale district hospital, Kinango and Lunga Lunga among other health centers in Kwale county.
