Mourners engage police at a morgue

16 June 2014, 10:14 Robert Chepkwony

Naivasha - Drama ensued outside the Naivasha sub-county hospital Sunday morning when hundreds of mourners blocked the nearby Koinange street demanding justice over the killing of a Nairobi’s Eastleigh-based businessman.

It took the intervention of armed police led by Naivasha OCS, John Owuoth to calm down the mourners.

Trouble started after the mourners moved in to collect the body of the late Samuel Muchai for burial only to find it labelled as a victim of mob justice.

According to a relative, Joseph Kinuthia, those who killed Muchai were well known people whose images were captured on camera.

He attributed the murder to a deal gone sour and accused police officers in Pangani for failing to arrest the three main suspects.

"Our brother was killed by people well known to us and we were protesting the move to record his death under mob justice," he said.

The incident attracted tens of Naivasha residents who wanted to catch a glimpse of the happenings before the mourners proceeded with their journey.
