Nyeri - Residents of Thunguma village in Nyeri are in shock after two people were killed by a fire engine while on their way home from a funeral Wednesday evening.
The fire truck was on its way to put off a fire at the village but arrived late when irate residents started to chase it away, causing the accident.
In a bid to escape the public wrath, the driver of the truck that is owned by the Nyeri County government lost control and hit five people.
A young man died on the spot while a woman died on arrival at Nyeri Referral Hospital where she had been rushed for treatment.

“Three others have been admitted in the same hospital in critical condition,” area OCPD, Charles Rotich said while confirming the incident.
Rotich also confirmed that the four-bed roomed timber house was razed despite public efforts to extinguish the fire.
The owner of the house, Rose Wangari said her gas cylinder exploded when she was preparing tea for her mourners who passed by her home from the burial ceremony.
Shocked members of the public jammed the scene saying it was a double tragedy for the village.
Police removed the body of the deceased to Nyeri Hospital morgue while the fire engine was towed to Nyeri Central Police station.
