Motorcycle accident kills 1, injures 3

06 May 2013, 15:03 Jane Pamba

One woman has lost her life and three others admitted at St Mary’s Mission hospital in Mumias after they were involved in a grisly road accident at Lukoye area, a few kilometers from Mumias town on Monday morning.

Confirming the incident, Mumias Traffic Base Commander Joseph Sizo said that the accident involved a motorcycle and a tractor that was travelling to Mumias town in the early morning tragedy.

“The motorcyclist who lost control and hit the tractor head on had three passengers on board who were all ladies,” said Sizo.

He further added that one of the passengers lost her life on the spot while the other three were rushed to the hospital with serious fractures.

Sizo said that many motorcyclists in the area have been involved in accidents due to failure to observe traffic rules, urging them to be keen on the roads especially during this rainy season.

The mangled wreck of the motorcycle and tractor were towed to Mumias police station.

Area police boss George Sedah has urged motorists to conform to traffic rules and regulations, calling on members of the public to avoid boarding overloaded vehicles or motorcycles in order to help curb road accidents.
