A suspected motorcycle thief was lynched by irate members of public for allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle within Malindi town before they set him a blaze.
The 22 year old man is said to have been attempting to steal motor cycle at private house on Monday morning with his accomplice before they were confronted by owners and ran away.
Eye witnesses told journalists that the deceased was in group of four people who had secretly entered a private house in Malindi at around 2:00 am but their attempt to steal a motor cycle aborted as owners raised alarm and neighbors responded quickly.
It is said the four ran away but irate members of public who responded after the alarm pursued them and cornered the deceased raining kicks and blows to him.
They then arrested and frog marched him to Alaskan ground in Malindi where they set him a blaze.
An eyewitness who refused to be named said the deceased was in group of three other people who always terrorize locals in the area.
“This person is one of those who always broke into our houses and steal our properties,” said the source.
Malindi police Boss Kiprono Lang'at confirmed the incident and said that remains of the deceased were taken to Malindi District Hospital Mortuary.
He warned members of public against lynching suspected thieves stating that members of public should be alerting police to arrest the suspects.
“Members of public should inform police officers whenever they see suspects of theft instead of lynching them,” insisted the police Boss.
Two weeks a go a 15 year old boy at Goshi village in Malindi was lynched before he was set a blaze by irate members of public after he was found stealing ducks from his neighbor.
Cases of theft in the area have been rising every day in the recent past as well as members of public lynching them and later setting a blaze.
