A mother of 4 is to serve 2 years community service after abandoning her 1 month old baby at Gakoromone area in Meru County.
The accused Linet Makena pleaded guilty to the charges of denying her baby the right to shelter, food and medical facilities in October last year.
She pleaded for leniency before Senior Resident Magistrate D.W. Mburu saying she lacked basic needs that forced her quit her matrimonial home on pretext she was taking her newly born baby to hospital but later abandoning her to the streets.
According to an inquiry report from the children’s Department the accused had marital issues with the husband before she committed the crime.
The court accepted her plea considering the report that the accused lacked marital experience after dropping out of primary school hence needed counseling on family matters.
The baby named Peacemaker Kagwiria is still under the rescue of Ripples International Meru.
