Nyeri - Police in Othaya have arrested an aging woman alongside her daughter, a mother of three, on suspicion that they killed an eight-month-old infant and buried her at their farm in Gathumbi village.
Agnes Wangui, 32, reportedly killed her daughter on Thursday last week through the help of and her mother, Wanjiku Muchiri.
According to Reuben Kogi, Agnes' brother, the two had been behaving strangely before the incident, and claimed that they could have been possessed by demons.
Kogi said he got the shocking news from neighbours and rushed home to confirm.
“I came home to confirm the rumors that my younger sister and mother had jointly killed an infant and buried her close to my father’s grave. They refused to open the gate and the house door. Later, I consulted elders and they advised me to involve police officers,” said Kogi, who is a Nairobi-based police officer.

He asserted that investigations were underway to establish whether the duo has a mental illness or it was normal crime.
“During arrest, my sister showed police where she had buried the infant but did not clearly say why she allegedly committed the offence,” Kogi added.
However, residents and neighbours suspected that it could have been a curse related to family land feuds.
They added that the two suspects have been behaving weirdly noting that sometimes they could go to pluck tea in the evening when everyone else has left the farm.
Police said they were seeking a court order so as to exhume the said body and determine the next course of action.
