Mother butchers her 3 children, hangs self

07 November 2013, 16:08 Arap Yego

Bungoma - A somber mood has engulfed Matulo Village on the outskirts of Bungoma town, in Kanduyi Constituency, after a 27-year-old woman allegedly butchered to death her three children using a kitchen knife on Wednesday night, seriously injured a fourth one and took her own life.

The four were found early Thursday morning in the house that is behind a shop that is usually operated by the deceased woman, by a resident who had gone to the kiosk to buy sugar.  She became suspicious when she knocked at the shop and nobody answered.

After venturing into the house, she stumbled upon three lifeless bodies of the children that lay in a pool of blood, while the middle-aged woman's body was dangling from the rooftop.

Andrew Lunani, the husband of the deceased woman who works as a security guard at Kanduyi Children's Home, was not available at the time the incident happened.

He told police officers that he had no domestic problems with his late wife, whom he had lived with for nine years.

Bungoma South OCPD, Kirunya Limbitu, confirmed the incident and said that they are conducting investigations to unravel the motive of the shocking murder as the deceased left no suicide note.

“The bodies of the deceased children; two boys and a girl aged 10, 4 and 6 years respectively, and that of their mother, were taken to the Bungoma District Hospital Mortuary for preservation,” said the police boss.

The fourth child, 8, who sustained injuries in the incident, is currently receiving medical attention at a Bungoma Hospital where he was rushed to.
