Mombasa - Mombasa County health chiefs have said doctors are on high alert to counter any Ebola threats in the entire coastal region.
This was after reports that some direct Ethiopian Airlines from West Africa land at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
“Although there are no cases reported so far, we have intensified our operations to screen passengers at the airport to ensure that people are safe," said Doctor Shikeli, the County health operations officer.
She assured locals and tourists in the region of their safety saying the government was prepared for any outcome and noted that special doctors from the Mombasa County Rapid Response team have been trained on how to handle any cases of Ebola.
“We have a team that has been trained on Ebola in case of any eventuality. We have already identified Tudor district hospital as an alternative hospital for handling Ebola cases,” said Shikeli.
The killer disease has so far claimed over 1 000 people in West Africa.
