Mombasa clean up act
17 February 2012, 16:39
Mombasa Municipal council were mindful of the hygiene of the residents along the Likoni - Ukunda -Tanzania road as they collected the piles of garbage piled up by the roadside.
This initiative was welcomed by the residents of Likoni area who had raised complains on the effect of this filthy garbage which was a discomfort to the residents here. The locals said the garbage was stinky and no business could go around here.
Besides it was a time bomb as communicable diseases such as Cholera was not far from breaking out.
In an interview with the passers by, they recommended an alternative solution to the garbage dumping through the provision of disposing bins and community enlightenment on refuse management.
This move should be kept up, as Mombasa hosts many tourists who throng Kenya on holiday to experience the beautiful Flora and fauna.
Most of the attractions are found in the south of Coast and this highway leads there, making it unpleasant for the tourists as they travel.
We hope that the line ministries help in the up grade of refuse management in this coastal city.
