Mombasa County set to construct 1 000 KM roads

19 August 2015, 12:35 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - Mombasa governor, Hassan Ali Joho has unveiled construction graders and fire engines worth KES 165 million that will be used to construct new roads within Mombasa County.

Joho said the newly acquired equipment is set to be used to improve 1 000km roads that were initially to be done by the national government.

The governor advised Mombasa residents to be cautious of leaders who are out to disrupt the County development plan.

“Ignore people who are jealous of the County development plan and are out there spreading rumors,” cautioned Joho.

He revealed that the County has plans to lay out new designs for fresh water conduits that are set to benefit the residents of Timbwani in Likoni sub-County.

Speaking at the Treasury Square in Mombasa during the launch, Joho who was in the company of Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba and Jomvu MP Badi Twalib said he won’t be distracted by critics.

He said the County government has plans to construct the second Nyali Bridge under Public Private sector Partnership to connect the Mombasa Island through Kongowea.

Joho said the bridge will be ready by 2017 to help reduce the heavy traffic being currently witnessed in Mombasa.

He said plans are also underway for the construction of a third bridge to link the island to Likoni to help with the likoni ferry channel that has affected movement of people.

Joho took a swipe at his critics whom he vowed to unseat come 2017.

“Let those tiny dikidiki be warned that they will be swallowed by the lion in 2017,” said Joho.
