Nairobi - Retired president Daniel Moi turns 90, as many reflect on a stint in office that shaped the country.
The former president, fondly known as the professor of politics will hit the golden age of 90 Tuesday with a party at his Kabarak home.
Moi will celebrate his birthday in a way only he would have been expected to, in the midst of students of his Kabarak institution.
There will be a book launch detailing his life thus far as well as a tree planting session.
His was a mixed time in office and even though there were those that felt he was more of a travesty, he is remembered for ushering in multiparty politics and maintaining peace in the country.
The attempted Coup in 1982 was also a highlight of his time in office.
" I will remember him as a statesman and a person who thought about the people, political analyst Michael Njenga.
" He divided opinion in many ways but he will be remembered as a true statesman, he added.
It is expected that there will be a number of personalities at the ceremony in Kabarak, with some high ranking government officials expected to attend the ceremony.
