Meru MPs want Munya investigated over assassination

Meru - A section of Meru MPs want their former Governor, Peter Munya whose Gubernatorial position was nullified by the Court of Appeal investigated over the murder of an artist, Nicholas Musese, two weeks ago.
Tigania East MP Mpuri Aburi, Imenti North MP Dawood Raheem, Igembe North’s Joseph M’eruaki and Imenti Central’s Gideon Mwiti allege that the artist’s killing was political and meant to silence young people supporting Dr. Kilemi Mwiria.
“This is an assassination meant to threaten the young people ahead of the anticipated by-election. It is meant to cow them into silence,” said M’eruaki.
The MPs, accompanied by Gatundu North legislator Francis Kigo, demanded that Munya record a statement with police following Musese’s death which they held was an assassination.
“The former Governor must go and record a statement with police. He must go and say and even prove that indeed he has nothing to do with the killing of this artist,” said Aburi.
The legislators argued that the artist’s murder, carried out by gunmen on a motorbike, raises suspicion because nothing was stolen from him, and none of the passengers in the vehicle he was driving was harmed.
The deceased artist, who was in support of Munya’s gubernatorial opponent, Kelemi Mwiria, had performed at a function attended by the Deputy President William Ruto at Maua Stadium on Sunday during his Meru county tour. Musese was then shot dead early Monday morning after the event.
