Media personality calls Kenyans 'stupid'?
25 February 2015, 18:50
Nairobi - Tensions in the media have been
running high since the analogue shutdown that saw most of the industry’s
biggest players being locked out, and forced to move their content online.
shift away from analogue has seen the smaller fish such as K24 and KBC rise to the top
of the viewership list.
The frustration caused by this switch off though has spread
fast, causing many Kenyans to point fingers at these locked out media
houses claiming that they are trying to stifle the digital growth.
Madowo, one of Kenya’s leading journalists has had enough of this nonsense from
Kenyans, calling the “airheads” in an article that he has just published.
This attack on Kenyans has caused quite a
reaction from Kenyans on social media, most of whom hit back at the journalist.
In his article he wrote things like “Everybody and their grandmother turned
into a post doctorate-level expert on digital migration in just one week.” And
“Airheads who don’t even know what DVBT2 stands for became overnight analysts on all
matters digital migration, speaking with comical authority on why Nation,
Standard and Royal Media were resisting change.
‘Never underestimate the power
of stupid people in large groups,’ George Carlin once said. Is he
justified in calling some Kenyans ‘stupid’ for their reaction to the media lockout?
