Mau mau kins demand gold

20 June 2013, 12:23 Wangui Joseph

A youth group in Nyeri County is demanding that the British government compensate Mau Mau freedom fighters in terms of a kilogram of gold for every year since 1885.

Sons and Daughters of Mau Mau Freedom Fighters also called for compensation of all genuine freedom fighters country wide, without leaving anyone out of the payment deal.

Addressing the media on Wednesday at Central Hotel in Nyeri town, their Secretary General Micheal King’ori articulated his fears that some of their parents might not benefit from the amount that was to be released by the British government.

He claimed that gold value does not depreciate and if compensation is done in terms of the mineral it will be fair to everybody.

“Administration and political connection issues should be weeded out once and for all and genuine Mau Mau be given their rights as what they fought with their souls, blood and labour be acknowledged,” King’ori pointed out.

“We are demanding some parcels of land from Solio Ranch be given to the mistreated, ignored, forgotten generation and destroyed fighters from Nyeri and other adjoining areas,” he added.
