Mau Mau veterans rubbish calls for referendum
26 August 2013, 15:09
The Mau Mau war veterans association in Nakuru county has rubbished calls by CORD coalition to push for a referendum.
In a statement issued in Nakuru on Monday, the secretary of Mau Mau Duncan Mwangi Kariuki alias general Matenjagwo said that the move by CORD was ill advised and is meant to derail the development momentum of the Jubilee government.
Mwangi added that it would be prudent to allow the government settle down and embark on fulfilling the promises made to Kenyans during the campaign period adding that if a referendum is held at the moment, it would cause divisions among Kenyans.
He said that as freedom fighters, they would be happy to taste the leadership of a young generation, unlike in the past where leadership has been associated with “old guards”.
The organizing secretary said that apart from being a waste of time, a referendum would be a waste of tax payer’s money which is needed for the development of the nation.
