Mau Mau freedom fighter dies a pauper

Another Mau Mau hero passed on in Meru on Saturday afternoon after a long life of poverty and ill health.
M’Anampiu Nkanata alias General Muchoori who was in charge of Freedom Fighters based in Meru from 1952 to Independence year 1963 died at his home, at the age of 96.
His son in law George Gikunda said that they have been nursing the freedom fighter where he has been admitted at Charia Catholic Hospital on several occasions since last year.
“The doctors have tried to extend his life to no avail,” said mournful Gikunda.
Consoling the bereaved family, Paul Muite and Gitobu Imanyara said that it was a blow to Kenya and a challenge that freedom fighters are becoming extinct under unfavorable conditions of low life standards.
In their message, the two caled upon Kenya and British governments to support the few remaining freedom fighters and their families.
