Nairobi - Former opposition candidate and Presidential candidate Kenneth Matiba has been admitted in hospital in critical condition.
Matiba was flown to the Karen Hospital from his Mombasa base and is currently admitted at the ICU section of the hospital as confirmed to News24 by a hospital administrator.
" He arrived Wednesday and has been suffering from breathing problems. He is critical but stable,' the administrator who did not wish to be named told News24.
Matiba has been ill for a while now and has been a regular visitor to hospitals in Mombasa where he resides.
He was even visited last year by Deputy President William Ruto.
Matiba was a major campaigner for the end of one party state in Kenya and nearly won the elections in 1992.
The 72 year old is known for his elegance and fighting spirit but has been off the public eye in recent times due to his deteriorating health that has been attributed to a stroke he had whilst in detention.
