2008 Kenyan Premier League Champions Mathare United have appointed Staley Okumbi as the new coach of the team. Gabriel Kingi has now taken a rest after failing to knit together wins for the slum boys. Kingi took over the hlms at Mathae after former Coach Salim Ali moved to Sofapaka.
Kingi has managed only four points in seven league matches and Mathare languish in the relegation zone, something that they are not used to.
Okumbi now takes over with his first match being a tricky one against Mathare United.
Chairman Bob Munro has thanked Kingo for his service to the team and in nurturing talent within the MYSA community. Kingi now takes over a new role as the Director of Talent development. He will also be the team’s technical advisor.
Before taking over the job, Okumbi was with Nationwide side Kariobangi Sharks. He has been an assistant coach at Mathare United when Francis Kimanzi and Salim Ali were the coaches.
