Police in Nyandarua North district have urged matatu owners and Sacco officials to report all un-authorized groups collecting money at matatu terminus in the region.
Area Deputy OCPD Benjamin Onsongo said such groups are led by criminals who are out to extort hard working Kenyans saying that they will not be allowed to operate in the area.
Onsongo made this remarks while addressing matatu owners and drivers during the launch of a road safety campaign aimed at reducing road carnage.
Nyahururu Traffic Base Commander Jeffa Kombe also cautioned matatus operators to ensure that they observe the laid down traffic rules to avoid accidents.
He added that drunken driving and passenger harassment will not be condoned and called on Sacco officials to be strict and not to allow workers who drink on the job.
The campaign known as the National Road Safety Programme is aimed at encouraging road users to take personal responsibility as drivers, passengers and pedestrians to avoid accidents.
