Matatu chairman blames Kimunya

21 November 2012, 15:11 James Kabotia

Matatu Owners Association (MOA) national chairman Simon Kimutai has said that they will go to court if Transport Minister Amos Kimunya fails to intervene and ensure that Probox motor vehicles comply with the road safety measures.

He blamed the Minister saying that it is so unfair for the private vehicles to be allowed to operate as PSVs yet they are not operating professionally as matatus.

Kimutai was speaking in Nanyuki where he officially opened MOA and Invesco office branches.

He urged the matatu owners in Mt Kenya region to be united adding that the matatu industry is a club of poor millionaires due to lack of unity.

He explained that the government had directed that the 14-seater matatus be wiped out of the major cities to ease congestion but the same government, through minister Kimunya, stretched the directive country-wide.

The MOA chairman also condemned the Eastleigh mini-bus bomb explosion urging the government to instill security in the transport sector.

Kimutai, who is also a member of the National Roads Safety Trust, said that the trust will offer road safety equipment and education to all road users.
