Matatu Owners launch Ma3 tournament

01 July 2015, 14:39 Mike Munga

Nairobi - The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has launched their annual Ma3 Football Tournament.

The tournament scheduled to start on August 8 will see 32 teams drawn from matatus operating in Nairobi County compete for the top prize.

The year’s theme is ‘Peace in Diversity’ and it aims at improving relations between employees and their employers and at the same time bringing the operators together.

MOA together with their member SACCOs and routes have for the last two years organized the Ma3 tournament which seeks to promote a peaceful coexistence and harmony between matatu operators, law enforcers, youth and the local communities using football and sports as a uniting element.

During the tournament, conductors and drivers will be working to decimate peace messages to commuters by engaging them in dialogues about peace and brotherliness.

These daily interactions will also incorporate the Kenya Police, both traffic and crime who are responsible for maintaining law and order in the society.

The tournament has been endorsed by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and shall be run technically by FKF officials, and guided by the current FIFA rules.

“We have agreed to support this great initiative by the Matatu Owners and we will be in charge of the technical side of the tournament from organizing fixtures, appointment of Referees, to facilitating ground preparations to ensure the tournament is professionally run and fair,” said FKF Deputy Secretary General, George Onyango.
