Mary Wambui: Shebesh must get justice

10 September 2013, 11:01 James Kabotia

Nyeri - Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui has strongly condemned the recent assault of the Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh by governor Evans Kidero during a heated verbal exchange outside his office.

Wambui said it was disrespectful of Kidero to slap Shebesh in public and in broad daylight, adding that justice must be done.

“Strict measures should be taken upon the Governor so that leaders of this country learn to respect one another. As women of this country, we demand justice for Shebesh. Kidero must go home,” said Wambui.

The legislator said that the Women Representative was voted in by myriads of Nairobi citizens and that she did not deserve such embarrassment.

Wambui said that the act revealed that the dignity of women in the country was lowered and it should not be swept under the carpet.

Shebesh, known for her aggressiveness, had confronted Kidero over the ongoing County employees’ strike which has paralysed operations over unpaid salaries.

The Nairobi Women Representative had earlier addressed the protesting workers outside Kidero’s office before proceeding to the governor’s chambers to seek audience with him.

A short but heated argument ensued after Kidero emerged from his office before gesticulating and slapping Shebesh who momentarily staggered before men believed to be her aides steadied her.
