Marwa wants corrupt traffic officers arrested
20 December 2014, 17:46
Mombasa - Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to arrest traffic officers manning three key road blocks in Mombasa County for taking bribes.
He said the officers were extorting bribes from motorists at the Nyali, Miritini, and Shika Adabu road blocks in Mombasa adding that they should be arrested.
This follows public outcry that some officers have turned the road sites to bribe zones therefore sleeping on their policing role.
It is believed that the officers ask for as little as KES 100 from motorists and threaten to arrest them if they fail to bribe them.
He said EACC has slept on their duty yet complaints from motorists are being filed day by day.
“People are complaining about some officers who are allegedly collecting bribes at the road blocks instead of doing their security job,” Marwa said.
EACC officers recently arrested 10 officers in Nakuru after they were caught soliciting for bribes from motorists.
