Marende lands Kenya Power top job

05 January 2015, 17:25 William Korir

Nairobi - Former Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende has been named chairman of the Kenya Power Company board of directors.

Marende was officially named chairman through a presser by the firm Monday after being elected to the role by shareholders last month.

He replaces Eliazar Ocholla.

Marende, a former Member of Parliament for Emuhaya constituency is well known in the country for his service as Speaker of the house between 2008 and 2013.

It was a position in which he served with distinction and was revered by many Kenyans for his fairness and impartiality despite being a known member of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM.

" I look forward to working with the board in support of the management and employees of Kenya Power in order to sustain the company’s business growth and enhance customer service for the benefit of shareholders and the economy at large," he said.

Marende has been out of active politics since he was replaced by Justin Muturi as the Speaker of the National Assembly.
