Manhunt for terror suspects intensified

09 April 2015, 09:11 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - The anti terror police unit in Mombasa have stepped up manhunt for terror suspects who were profiled and their images printed in the newspapers.

Mombasa County police Commander, Robert Kitur said some of the suspects hailed from the coastal region and asked the members of public to volunteer any information that will lead to their arrest.

He was speaking to the press at the police headquarters where he displayed three guns and seven rounds of ammunition recovered from a gang that attempted to rob a cyber café at Changamwe.

Kitur thanked the Changamwe residents for their continued support that lead to arrest of one suspect believed to be part of a group of armed thugs who raided the cyber café.

“I highly recommend the DCIO and OCPD of Changamwe police station and the locals for the tip that lead to the arrest," said Kitur.

The Mombasa police boss confirmed that the exhibits will be forwarded to Nairobi for ballistics examination as they are suspected to have been used to conduct other crimes within Mombasa County.

The Police boss urged the public to keep up the spirit of sharing information with the police because that will help to reduce crime rates and curb terrorism.

He also urged the suspects on the run to surrender to the police to help clear their names if they are not involved in terror activities.

Kitur also confirmed that they are still holding three women, who were arrested in Elwak while trying to cross over to Somalia, to help police with the on going investigations.
