Kampala - The wife of late South African President Nelson Mandela, Graca Machel will be the chief guest at the first ever Uganda's grandmothers' grand party to be held soon, where she will also launch a book.
This comes at a time when grandmothers in Uganda are seeking to be specially recognized by society.
They claim that grandmothers always carry the burden of looking after their relatives especially those in problems.
They say that most of their children and grand children living in towns take to them babies, leaving behind little upkeep money.
An organization called ''Reach one touch ministries'' is organizing a grand party for grandmothers.
According to Edith Nakagwa and Jessica Abisa, some of the grandmothers who are preparing to mark the first ever grandmothers gathering slated for 5th to 7th October in Entebbe, they are happy that finally someone considers them a special group in society.
''The occasion will rejuvenate the efforts we use to extend help to our relatives,'' said Abisa.
The executive director Reach one touch ministries, Kenneth Edmund Mugayehwenkyi said: ''The national grandmothers gathering will also see the wife to the late south African president Nelson Mandela attend and launch a book containing all the things that they go through.''
He added that President Yoweri Museveni and the first lady, Janet Museveni will also grace the occasion that is to attract over 1 000 grandmothers from across the country.
