Man who whipped Raila arrested

01 October 2014, 11:53 John Kioko

Kwale - Police in Kinango have arrested the man who whipped the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga and Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya.

The man, identified as Lengo Mudzomba, was arrested at his employer's homestead while mowing the lawn.

Wanted to access handouts

Kinango sub-County commissioner, Moses Ivuto told journalists in his office that Mdzomba, whose original home is Jibana in Kilifi County, attacked the two so as to access the handouts that were being dished out to dancers.

"When he heard the choppers hoovering, he saw it as an opportunity to access the venue. While at the venue, he tried to get the handouts while accessing the dignitaries," said Ivuto.

According to Ivuto, the man claimed to be poor and thus wanted a share of the handouts.

"A crime is alleged to have been committed and the law must be followed. We will charge him with assault, " added the commissioner.

Ivuto noted that it is currently not known whether the man is mentally ill or not.

Although Raila had said that the man should be set free at the function, Kinango OCPD Moses Kikului told journalists that following the crime, the government is the complainant.

At his employer's homestead where he worked as a Gardner, Nassim Issa who is his boss said the man who has worked there for three months has never shown signs of mental illness.

"He has never insulted anyone for the time that I have known him. He came here for employment and I gave him work of maintaining the garden while also providing his food and a place to sleep," she said.

Upset by Okoa Kenya campaigns

She added that on the fateful day, Mudzomba returned home fuming and complaining about the Okoa Kenya campaigns.

"He asked what we had to Okoa

(salvage) when almost everything was going wrong. He was disappointed that teachers and nurses were demanding pay hikes while people are dying of hunger," she added of the man who is said to be a senior bachelor for fear of sexually transmitted diseases.

Issa described the man as very polite and humble saying the family was surprised of the ordeal.

She further noted that she has never seen him with a walking stick.
