Man who threatened to explode aircraft at Moi International Airport released

Mombasa - A Mombasa court has released on bail a man who threatened to explode a Jambo jet plane at the Moi International Airport.
Shafi Abdullahi Dire denied the charges before Resident Magistrate Irene Ruguru.
It is was alleged that on the April 22 at around 1050hrs at the Moi international airport departure area in Changamwe sub-County within Mombasa County, while on board a Jambo jet plane KQ 8603 which was set to depart for Nairobi at 1125hours, the accused willfully and unlawfully imperiled the safety of the said aircraft and the passengers on board.
Dire is said to have misbehaved in the plane and threatened to explode it, an act which interfered with the safety of the said aircraft and the persons on board.
The CID officer based at the airport, Naibei Stephen said that the accused person shouted inside the plane saying that he would explode the said aircraft.

He said all the passengers on board were ordered to disembark the plane for the airport police to conduct a search on the plane and the suspect escorted to the police for interrogation.
The accused person's lawyer, Gikandi Ngaibuni requested the court to release the accused on reasonable bail terms, and he was released on bail of KES 500 000 with a surety of similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on June 12, 2015.
