Nyeri - Police in Nyeri have rescued a woman who was abducted by her estranged lover at Ngangarithi Estate in Nyeri town.
According to area police boss, John Leshimpiro, 20-year-old Jane Nyaguthii went missing few weeks ago and was found locked in a rental house at the Estate on Wednesday night.
Leshimpiro said the discovery was made after intensive investigations and search by police officers.
He said the suspect, 23-year-old Joseph Gateru was demanding a ransom of KES 7 000 from the victim’s parents.
Police got information about the matter from the lady’s father, Charles Kienje Nyaga, which led to her rescue.
Leshimpiro said the duo is believed to have been in love-gone-sour relationship.
The police officers were forced to break into the single-roomed house after the suspect refused to open.
The OCPD said the suspected kidnapper stabbed the victim with a knife on the neck and also attempted the same on the police while resisting arrest.
The suspect also tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself on the stomach with the same knife.
The two, Gateru and Nyaguthii, sustained serious injuries during the incident and were rushed to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital for treatment.
Leshimpiro said investigations into the matter have began and police are interrogating the parties concerned.
