Nairobi - A Nairobi court has sentenced to death a robber who beheaded a butcher five years ago.
Michael Gitonga, 39, will now face the hangman’s noose for the gruesome murder of the butcher during a robbery with violence incident on September 22, 2009 at Muthunguchi Village in Thika.
High Court Judge, Nicholas Ombija, ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence incriminating Gitonga for the butcher’s gruesome murder.

The court heard that the butcher, identified as Boniface Mwangi, was walking home with a neighbour when a gang led by Gitonga intercepted them and demanded that they empty their pockets.
“It is clear to me that both the deceased and the neighbour recognised the accused as there was full moon and visibility was not a problem,” ruled Justice Ombija before handing Gitonga the death sentence.
