Nairobi - A man survived death in the South B wall disaster by a whisker after he found the shelter people were hiding in full end elected to head forward.
The man, Julius Owiny survived the disaster after the shelter in which people were protecting themselves from the rain in, became full and since there was no space, he was forced to head forward.
" I did not have an umbrella so I decided to hide there but it was full, he says of his narrow escape".
" So to ease pressure I headed forward to hide in a different space some 100 metres ahead. I got there then after a few minutes, I heard loud screams and people wailing."
" When I went back, I found that people had been killed. I survived by the skin of my teeth," he added.
Nine people were killed on the spot when the wall separating the slum from a mosque collapsed after Monday night’s heavy rains.
The wall collapsed on a shop where a number of people were sheltering from the downpour.
The Kenya Red Cross has since confirmed that six women and four men were pulled out of the rubble during search and rescue operations.
