A 28 year old woman is fighting for her life at the Rift Valley provincial General hospital in Nakuru after being stabbed twice on the chest by her drunk husband in there house a stone's throw from the Teacher's police Station.
According to neighbours at the Nakuru teachers Estate, Mary Wairimu was brutally assaulted by her husband of three years Mr. Matu edward after failing to explain why she could not sire children for him after three years in the matrimonial home. he picked up a quarrel after getting home at about 8.00 in the evening and when the wife excused herself to bed to escape the violence, he picked a kitchen knife and severally stabbed her on the chest as she slept. When neighbours came to her rescue, he fled only to resurface in a local pub claiming he was protected and that he was avenging for the |Nyeri men battered earlier in the month.
Reports indicate that the man, a known drunk has on many occassions sent the wife packing after beating her up. It is only two months ago that the relationship was blessed in a Kikuyu customary ceremony and received blessings from the man's mother who is resident in the US of A.
Investigations reveal that the man, a Bachelor of commerce graduate from India was deported back to the country way back in the early 2000s after which he worked for a local Motor firm as an accountant before being fired on alcohol related issues. With the stipend from his mother and brother in the USA, the man has managed to live in the local beer dens which has endeared him to violence.
At the time this story was being made, the victim was still in a comma with the man still walking free and beating his chest in the estate as he samples his favourite hard liquor.
It is not that the Police and the local administration have not been informed, they are aware of the occurrence but its said that everytime a reort is made of him, money changes hands, this is the issue at hand. How long will people go scot free while their victims suffer silently in hospital beds nursing wounds of impunity? 'Its a high time the police did something to arrest this man before we finish him once and for all', said an irate aunt to the victim. But the problem is that the man has money and ready to invest in his criminal security.
A check at the police station reveal that the incident has not been booked in the official OB even after neighbours and relatives filed a report.
Police commissioner should be reading this.
