A man was stabbed under mysterious circumstances and a gun recovered on Thursday evening in Muhoroni Constituency as violence continued to rock parts of Kisumu County due to the massive electoral malpractices witnessed in the ODM primaries.
The man was stabbed on the chest by youths allegedly allied to a senior politician gunning for the parliamentary seat in the area.
Muhoroni District Commissioner Solomon Abwaku confirmed the incident saying the victim had been rushed to Nandi Hills District Hospital for treatment.
Abwaku however allayed fears that two people had been stabbed in the melee.
Trouble started when supporters of Prof. Ayiecho Olweny and his fiercest rival Onyango Koyoo disagreed on where to place polling centers.
Koyoo’s supporters further threw a spanner in the works by alleging that marked ballot papers had been stuffed in some ballot boxes.
A brawl ensued between the two factions thus resulting to the man being stabbed.
Following the incident, both Prof. Olweny and Onyango Koyoo were summoned to record a statement at Chemelil police post.
DC Abwaku disclosed that the unlicensed gun was recovered during the commotion after a suspect reportedly threw it down.
Even though the Muhoroni nomination exercise had been pushed to Friday at 6.00Am to 12noon, nothing much had happened by 3Pm.
