Man sits on grave to stop burial

21 July 2015, 21:53 Godfrey Olukya

Kampala - An elderly drunk man shocked mourners who were about to bury their relative when he jumped in the grave and said that unless the money he had lent to the deceased  was paid to him, the burial would not take place.

Aston Ntaduma who passed away lSunday was reportedly a friend of  Esitoferi Mubagadhi .They both used to meet in the evenings at various drinking places of Buloda village in Iganga district and shared local brew called 'malwa'.

Ever since his colleague died, he has been claiming that he had lent him USH 14,000 (KES 430) while they were at a drinking place. He vowed that the deceased would not be buried until when his money was paid back.

Yesterday as relatives and villagers were paying their last respects to the deceased, he shouted at the top of his voice that the deceased had a debt he had not cleared.

''He has my money. I lent him 14,000 which he had not paid back by the time he passed away. He borrowed it to buy 'malwa' and mucomo at mama Bereddene's  bar. Unless it is paid to me, no burial will take place," said Mubagadhi.

Some villagers pushed him away and threatened to beat him if he did not stop disturbing the bereaved and mourners.

He then walked to the grave which was about 20 metres away from where the prayers and paying of last respects were taking place.

As the mourners carried the coffin to the grave, Mubagadhi jumped in the grave and sat in it shouting that he wanted his money before burial takes place.

A few mourners contributed 14,000 which they gave to him before he got out of the grave and the burial took place.
