A five-member armed gangs shot dead a 24 year old man at Withare trading centre in Gobit Location within Laikipia East District on Tuesday.
Simon Karanja was playing pool with his friend inside a pub when the incident occurred.
Confirming the incident, Laikipia East police boss Joshua Lutukai said that the bar owner had gone to the toilet as Karanja’s friends strived to exit through the back door.
“The young man did not manage to escape and the armed robbers came from behind and shot him on the head,” the senior officer said.
Lutukai also noted that the thugs made away with KES 1 500 and some assorted bottles of spirits.
According to Lutukai, five suspects linked have so far been arrested and are being interrogated by police before they are arraigned in court.
The rate of insecurity in Laikipia East has been on the rise over the last two weeks.
Last weekend, Matatu Sacco chairman Paul Karanja was shot at his doorstep by unknown gunmen.
He is still nursing gun shot wounds at Cottage hospital in Nanyuki town.
During the same weekend, a 70 year old man at Ngare Ng’iro village was killed by cattle rustlers who later escaped with his 42 goats and sheep.
Lutukai said that security has been beefed up in Laikipia East, adding that they are not going to allow rogue individuals to distract peace.
