Kampala - A man lost his cool when his girlfriend denied him permission to read a message she got when they were together and set fire on her.
Police at Maganjo, an outskirt of Kampala City have arrested Deoden Eflaka on allegations that he set fire on his girlfriend.
The girlfriend, Phoebe Namutebi is admitted at the Mulago hospital in critical condition with burn wounds allover her body.
Namutebi said that she received a message from a friend on her phone and after reading it Eflaka asked for her phone so that he reads the message because he suspected it was from another man.
She refused to give him the phone but instead read the message. The move angered Eflaka who went out and bought petrol which he poured in the room before setting it on fire and running out.
He reportedly pushed the girlfriend back in the room when she also attempted to come out. He then locked the door from outside before fleeing.
" I shouted for help and neighbors ran in to my rescue. They removed me from the burning house and later rushed me to hospital, said Namutebi.
Namutebi's relatives reported the case to police and a hunt for Eflaka took off. He was arrested while hiding at a friend's place.
" We will take him to court to answer charges of attempted murder. There are indications that he wanted to kill his girlfriend," said police officer Abel Okware.
