Man sets father ablaze after disagreement

17 June 2015, 12:38 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - Police in Rongai constituency, Nakuru County have launched a manhunt for a 29-year-old man who set his father ablaze following a disagreement Tuesday night.

Kennedy Kiptoo allegedly poured petrol on his father and set him on fire at Moricho village after he allegedly refused to share part of the money he made after selling his two cows.

Confirming the incident Wednesday morning, Rongai police boss Joseph Mwamburi said the man decided to punish his father after he refused to give him his share of the proceeds.

“The two had a quarrel after the father sold two cows. The son wanted some share but his dad refused to give it out. That is why he resorted to torching him,” said Mwamburi.

The victim, Joseph Kipsirimbi was rescued by neighbours who were responding to his distress call. The good Samaritans took him to Ravine district hospital where he is nursing injuries.

Mwamburi said that the culprit disappeared after committing the heinous act, and has appealed to the public to offer any information that could lead to his arrest.

“Any information that will lead to arrest of Kiptoo will be helpful to officers handling the case. I urge residents of Rongai who might have any information to come forward,” he appealed.
