Man sentenced to six months for stealing groundnuts

Kwale - A middle-aged man from Kwale County will serve a six month imprisonment sentence after he pleaded guilty to shoplifting two packets of groundnuts from a supermarket.
Yusuf Kamole was handed the sentence on Monday, after appearing at the Kwale Law Courts where he readily admitted to the charges.
According to the prosecution, Kamole allegedly committed the offence on March 11 at Samrat Supermarket along Ukunda road in the County.
The court heard that the suspect was captured by Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) picking up the packets of nuts and putting them in his pocket.

A hawk eyed security guard manning the CCTV camera spotted the man taking the packets of the nuts and stuffing them in his pocket.
He was accosted as he left the supermarket and a brief search conducted on him leadong to the recovery of the stolen items.
Kamole in mitigation pleaded for leniency from the court, explaining that he only shoplifted the groundnuts because he was extremely hungry and had no cash.
