Man sentenced to life for killing brother

02 October 2014, 13:36 Chepkwony Robert

Nakuru - A Nakuru court sentenced a 23-year-old man to death after the court found him guilty of murdering his brother.

While delivering her ruling, Lady Justice Roseline Wendoh said that 10 witnesses who testified in court proved that indeed the accused committed the offence beyond reasonable doubt.

Peter Ndirangu was charged that on the December 19, 2011 he hacked John Njoroge to death at Bahati area in Nakuru County following a disagreement over proceeds from the sale of a cow.

Ndirangu, who had earlier testified in court, distanced himself from the mysterious murder of his brother, who according to witnesses was found lying dead on a sofa set in his house.

The court heard that there were no signs of forceful entry or breakage into the house where the deceased was found.

A postmortem report earlier produced in court indicated that the deceased succumbed to excessive bleeding as a result of deep wounds suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object.

A village elder who was among those who testified in court produced a machete suspected to have been used in the cold blood murder, and confirmed to the court that it belonged to the accused.

The accused was arrested in Nairobi a few days after the incident.

In his mitigation, the accused said that he is young and prayed for lenience but the judge said that he deserved the sentence due to the magnitude of the matter.

He was given 14 days to appeal.
